My podcasting career began back in 2013 with This Week in Startups. Back then we were publishing 2 shows a week and shooting about 4 just to keep a banked couple of episodes in order to stay ahead of the release schedule. This is one of my favorite episodes we did. I grew up on Tony Hawk so obviously it was awesome for that reason alone. The technical side of it was also a fun challenge. We shot in front a live studio audience of 8k people, 4 cameras, and I had the pleasure of directing the show and calling the live cuts.
Another highlight from my time working on This Week In Startups was when JCal sat down with the cofounder of AOL. He had just released a book and we knew this was going to be a special episode. For that reason we rented out a professional audio recording studio and got to have a little more fun with some studio lighting. Because we contracted the audio services we were able to focus on lighting and camera angles more than was typical on this agressive release schedule. These days many do podcasting a little differently. And since 2014 the tech has certainly made things a lot easier to accomplish. But I will always remember the joy of recording these episodes with such incredible people from the tech industry.
